You will be making your trading card in Microsoft Publisher
following directions handed out in the lab.

  1. If you are working from home, save any of the pictures below by "right clicking" on them. Then you can use it as a background in whatever publishing program you have. If you are using MS Publisher, start a New blank document, but you will have to change its size so it will look like a trading card.   To do this, go to File, Page Set up, and pick Special Size in the top part of the box. In the small white box click on the arrow and select Index card.  In the bottom part where the measurements are type 3" in Width and 5" in Height.  Click OK. Now your card will be the right size for a trading card.  To add items such as background, text box, or pictures, pick Insert, or choose the buttons on the left side.

  2. If you do not have a lab instruction hand-out, click here for a copy to print. You can find a template for your cards in either the WCMS Student folder on your desktop, or in Publisher by clicking on File, New, and picking the type of template you want.

Here is a sample card on Vasco de Gama (and NO, you can't use it as your own work!)

Here is a sample backside to the trading card that you may use if you wish:

If you wish to use the trading card design on this page, continue reading beginning in Part A. If you wish to create your own design for your cards, skip to Part B.

Here are some backgrounds you may use, depending on the country of your explorer (look at the flags at the bottom left). Right Click on them to save as a picture file to put in your document.
