The Woodford County Public Schools Hall of Fame recently announced their 2018 inductees.  This is the seventh year the organization has recognized individuals for their many accomplishments.  Inductees are divided into six categories; Academic, Arts and Humanities, Athletics, Career Achievement, Patron and Public Service.  All our graduates of Woodford County High except the Patron category.

Census Verification Form Reminder Checklist

All Woodford County students will bring home a Census Veritification Form today, the first day of school.  Please review the front page to make sure all demographic information is correct, especially phone numbers, addresses and parent e-mail addresses. 

Special Board Meeting

The Woodford County Board of Education has called a Special Board Meeting for Monday night, July 9th at 6:00 pm.

School Supply Event 2018 School Supply Event 2018

Elementary students and families are invited to the 2018 School Supply Event at Simmons Elementary on July 26th from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

Chromebook Deployment Chromebooks

In preparation for the 2018-2019 chromebook deployment, parents are being asked to log into their student's Infinite Campus account to check for outstanding fees.  Any outstanding fees as well as the $60 instructional fee and $15 take home fee must be paid in full for students to receive their chromebooks.

 

Super Attendance Flag Awarded

Congratulations to Huntertown Elementary!  Once again they've won the Super Attendance Flag!  Their average daily attendance for the month of April was 97.95%.  Way to go Wildcats!

 

Facilities Q&A Session Question and Answer Logo

Board Meeting Minutes Resolution

The attached resolution was approved at the May 3, 2018 special meeting of the Woodford County Board of Education.  This action was taken to correct a clerical error in the minutes from the January 18, 2018 tax rate hearing and special board meeting. 

Southside to Host Art Exhibit May 16-24 Sunset Over Blue by Nassir

Southside Elementary will host A Matter of Perspective, an exhibition of 31 pieces of artwork by students with disabilities. The exhibit will be on display May 16-24 before traveling to the next exhibition site. 

Kindergarten Kick-off Tuesday May 15 Kindergarten Kickoff

For kindergarten students & families beginning school in August 2018.  Students who are 5 years old on or before August 1, 2018 are eligible to register for kindergarten. This event will be held at EACH elementary school beginning at 6pm, Tuesday May 15.

WCPS E-Mail Interruption email logo

Due to a conversion by the state, e-mail will be down for our district beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15th through 6:00 a.m., Monday, March 19th.  If e-mail is sent during that time, it may or may not reach its intended destination.  We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we make this transition.

The Woodford County Schools will be hosting a community school safety information and listening forum on Tuesday, March 13th, at 6:00 in the Woodford County High School library.  District administrators will share current practices and we will have Jon Akers, executive director from the Kentucky Center for Safe Schools, and Versailles police chief Jim Fugate in attendance as well.  There will also be a time to hear suggestions for improvement from attendees.

New Immunization Guidelines Immunization Picture

There are NEW IMMUNIZATION GUIDELINES for the 2018-2019 school year.  All students in preschool through 12th grade must show proof of having received two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine to attend school.

and/or concerns for review that can lead to improved student achievement.

On Monday, November 20th, Mr. Hawkins, along with Mayor Traugott, Mayor Vandegrift and Librarian Munoz, kicked off WoodfordREADS by reading the first chapter of "The Spray Paint Mystery" to our kindergarten students.  Students were encouraged to have someone read the book at home with them and send in a picture to be shared here on our website.  Thanks to Mayor Traugott, Mayor Vandegrift and Librarian Munoz for your support and encouraging our students to read!

Shared Responsibility Proposal Follow-Up

The Woodford Educational Endowment Foundation is joining with the Woodford County Public Schools to encourage our students to read!  #WoodfordREADS (Read Explore And Discover Success)  The kickoff will be on Monday, November 20th.  The book for this year's initiative will be "The Spray Paint Mystery" by Angela Shelf Mandearis.  Mr. Hawkins, Superintendent of Woodford County Public Schools, will read the first chapter to some of our students along with WC Public Librarian, Becky Munoz, Versailles Mayor Brian Traugott and Midway Mayor Grayson Vandegrift.  Here's a flyer to tell you more about this exciting partnership to make reading fun!

Shared Responsibility Plan Press Conference

On Monday, November 6th, a press conference was held in the Woodford County High School Library to announce the Shared Responsibility Plan as an alternative to the governor's plan.  For those that were unable to attend, the video may be viewed below.

 

 

Night School Cancelled Thursday Oct. 12th

The WCPS Night School session for October 12th is cancelled due to district wide internet outrage for a bandwidth upgrade.  Safe Harbor and the district apologize for the inconvenice but look forward to utilizing the network after upgrade.

Safe Harbor - Power Outage Today

A Picture of the Safe Habor Academy LogoSafe Harbor Academy was impacted by a KU power outage today that began this morning and lasted until approximately 2:00.  This outage prevented the staff from making or receiving phones calls and accessing the district network for e-mail.  We apologize if this power outage prevented correspondence between the home and school.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the principal, Logan Culbertson at logan.culbertson@woodford.kyschools.us.

Early Release Day - Wednesday, October 18th

Elementary school students will be released at 12:40.  Middle and high school students will be released at 1:15.  Safe Harbor students will be released at 1:00.

Parent Fall Break Survey

There are numerous implications with both keeping or not keeping fall break in the calendar.  The purpose of this survey is NOT to survey all of the different possible scenarios keeping or eliminating a fall break could potentially mean to the development of the 18-19 calendar recommendation.  Rather, the purpose is to get a general idea to what extent our parents want to keep or not keep fall break in the calendar.  Your individual responses will not be shared with the committee.  Only the overall results will be shared.  If you have already responded via the parent email that was sent, no need to complete survey again as your response has been recorded.  Thank you.

NTI Day Information Non-Traditional Day Logo

Cold weather is here....

That means school may be cancelled due to inclement weather over the next few months.  Our district has been approved to offer non-traditional instruction days for this 2017-2018 school year.  This will allow students to engage in meaningful classroom work, even when weather conditions prevent them from being in school.  Information regarding our NTI day plan was sent home with students earlier this month.  Included was this letter from Mr. Hawkins, our Superintendent.  If you have any questions, please free to contact your child's school.

WCHS Tour School Tours

There will be another guided tour of WCHS on Wednesday, May 30th from 11:30 - 1:00.  As with the previous tour, visitors will be able to see the facility and learn about the benefits of a new school.  As the tour is conducted, questions can be addressed so families and comunity members have the most accurate information available.

RAP Support Group Meetings

Are you raising a child of a relative?
If so, you are invited to join us for a monthly support group to learn about resources and ideas in your role as acting parent/guardian.  The next meeting will take place on Monday, November 13th from 6:30 - 7:30 at the Woodford County Public Library.  Please mark your calendars as this group will meet on the second Monday of every month through May of 2018.  This flyer will provide more information regarding this program.  We hope you can join us!

Kindergarten Early Entry Kindergarten Children in Class

Woodford County Schools works to serve the needs of students in the community beginning with ensuring students are provided the best foundation for success. To be eligible for Early Entry, with early entry being defined as a student who does not meet the age requirements as designated in KRS, a student must meet the following guidelines and follow the process described:

  1. Student must turn 5 on or before December 31 of the Kindergarten Entry Year.
  2. Application submitted expressing desire to be screened for Early Entry prior to June 1 preceding the year of entry.
  3. Demonstrate general academic readiness through meeting the criteria of “Kindergarten Ready” on academic measures using the BRIGANCE© kindergarten screen.
  4. Score in the 90th percentile or above on all 5 areas of the Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning™, Fourth Edition. (DIAL™-4 five areas: Concepts; Motor; Language; Self-Help; Social-Emotional)
  5. Guardians complete a conference with district official to ensure full awareness of all known factors related to the guardian decision to pursue early entry.
FREE Event for Special Needs Individuals

The Woodford County Fair will have a FREE event for those with special needs on June 21st from 10:00 to noon.  This event is for both children and adults.  The flyer can be seen here.

The Yellowjackets attendance on High Attendance Day (September 20th) was the highest in Region 15!  This region includes 13 surrounding counties including Anderson, Franklin, Frankfort Independent, Harrison, Jessamine and Scott.

Important Information Regarding Wind Chill Delays and Closings Snowy Fence

How Does the Wind Chill Affect School Being Delayed or Closed?

During the winter months several factors come into play that could delay the start of school or cause school to be  closed all together. One such factor is the wind chill on a given day. On particularly cold mornings we continuously monitor the National Weather Service and closely monitor the weather conditions. There are two possible scenarios that come from the National Weather Service: a Wind Chill Advisory and a Wind Chill Warning. The National Weather Service in Louisville, KY defines the two as the following:

  • Wind Chill Advisory: Wind Chills between -10 and -24 degrees and at least a wind of 10 MPH or more.
  • Wind Chill Warning: Wind Chills -25 degrees and below with at least a wind of 10 MPH or more.
