There are committees meetings going on earlier in the day that your group might like to attend. You can contact your representative and/or senator to meet with you or at least get a picture with you. A tour of the Capitol building is also available. The chambers go into session at 2:00. Your representative and/or senator can arrange tickets for seats in the gallery so students can see what’s happening on the Chamber floor. Do you have students who might like to be pages? Again, arrange this with your representative or senator.

See http://kagegifted.org/giftedmonth/ for information about attending the Proclamation Ceremony and other activities your students can do that day as well as how to apply to be a page.  There’s a lot to do and getting the students to mix with the representatives and senators is a plus. Make it a great day to be gifted at the State Capitol!

First Annual Attendance Madness!

Are you ready for March Madness?!?
Woodford County Schools has come up with our own madness...Attendance Madness!

This will be the first annual March Madness themed student attendance competition.  The teams are made up of each grade level at each school, including Safe Harbor Academy.  These teams will compete against each other every week for the next five weeks according to this bracket.  The winning team will receive a flag to hang proudly in their school.  Individual prizes will be given as well for perfect attendance throughout the compettion.

We encourage your student(s) to help their team win by being in school every day!  This flyer will provide more details for you.
The competition begins on February 27th and runs through March 31st.

Best of luck to everyone!  See you at school!

Important Information Regarding Wind Chill Delays and Closings

How Does the Wind Chill Affect School Being Delayed or Closed?

During the winter months several factors come into play that could delay the start of school or cause school to be  closed all together. One such factor is the wind chill on a given day. On particularly cold mornings we continuously monitor the National Weather Service and closely monitor the weather conditions. There are two possible scenarios that come from the National Weather Service: a Wind Chill Advisory and a Wind Chill Warning. The National Weather Service in Louisville, KY defines the two as the following:

  • Wind Chill Advisory: Wind Chills between -10 and -24 degrees and at least a wind of 10 MPH or more.
  • Wind Chill Warning: Wind Chills -25 degrees and below with at least a wind of 10 MPH or more.

When the National Weather Service issues a Wind Chill Warning for Woodford County for the time the school day begins, we will make a decision to close schools.  It is quite likely we will make this type of decision on the morning of the day in question as it is hard to predict what the wind chill will be the night before.  If there is a Wind Chill Advisory for the county, schools will likely be open unless there are operational problems with the bus fleet or mechanical problem in the school buildings.  Buildings and the bus fleet are assessed in the morning prior to school by 6:00 am.
